Australia’s NSW Hunter region hit by 4.5-magnitude quake, 1 day after similar event

SYDNEY, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) — Hunter region of Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) state was hit by another earthquake on Saturday, a day after a similar event.
The 4.5-magnitude quake hit at around 4:40 p.m. local time in the same area as Friday’s, near Muswellbrook in the region, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported.
NSW Ambulance said there had been no reports of injuries.
Electricity provider Ausgrid said power to the area was briefly affected but had now been fully restored.
The quake came after a series of aftershocks, ranging from 2.5 to 2.7-magnitude throughout the day.
A 4.8-magnitude earthquake hit near the town of Muswellbrook, 180 km northwest of Sydney in the Upper Hunter Valley region, at approximately midday local time on Friday.
Friday’s earthquake shook parts of the NSW state, forced schools to evacuate and caused damage to homes.
More than 2,500 people on Friday reported feeling the tremor to government agency Geoscience Australia, with reports from Canberra to Sydney and Coffs Harbour, more than 300 km north of Muswellbrook. ■
